Nintendo Promises More Fire Emblem Heroes Content In 2018

Nintendo vowed to deliver more content for Fire Emblem Heroes over the course of this year as part of its financial summary for the fourth quarter of 2017. The first Fire Emblem mobile game is celebrating its one-year anniversary tomorrow and is still maintaining a stable user base, whereas its monthly sales in December were more than twice the size of its those recorded last February, the Japanese entertainment giant revealed, without disclosing specific numbers. A “special campaign” meant to commemorate the first anniversary of Fire Emblem Heroes will soon be added to the game, presumably in the form of a time-limited event, with more content being set to follow in the coming months. Nintendo is also seeking to promote the game with new TV commercials, though it’s presently unclear whether the company is intending to air them outside of its home country.

The firm’s mobile business is currently booming, being up more than 400 percent on an annual basis, with Nintendo stressing its value not just in regards to the revenue it generates but also its ability to promote the company’s console offerings, i.e. indirectly boosting 3DS and Switch sales, as well as the popularity of games for its gaming hardware. The Kyoto-based firm is adamant to continue with that strategy going forward, having just announced Mario Kart Tour for Android and iOS devices scheduled to be released during its next fiscal year ending March 31st, 2019. Nintendo’s latest financials didn’t provide an update on the status of its mobile game based on The Legend of Zelda franchise that’s reportedly been in the making for well over a year now but missed its 2017 release window.

Besides vowing to continue supporting Fire Emblem Heroes, the company also revealed that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has been performing reasonably well, having amassed a largely female audience that accounts for over 75 percent of its user base, with the majority of its players being adult women. Super Mario Run also maintained its performance over the final quarter of the year and still boasts approximately 20 million of monthly active players, Nintendo said, adding that the game surpassed 200 million downloads on Android and iOS combined.
